The start of a new school year brings excitement, and for some young learners, a little nerves too. In a recent Eye on Education episode on Dubai Eye 103.8, host Helen Farmer spoke with Charlotte Grieves, Head of Preparatory at Royal Grammar School Guildford Dubai, about supporting families and children as they transition back to school.

Charlotte described the first day as “the best day,” likening it to Christmas Eve for teachers, and highlighted the importance of building trust with families. She shared strategies for helping young learners settle in, including one-to-one parent meetings, positive reinforcement, and careful observation of behaviour, sleep, and appetite. She also emphasised patience with morning routines and the value of close collaboration between teachers and families to ensure a smooth start.

The conversation offered practical advice and reassurance for parents navigating the early years of school life.
