Preparing students for life beyond the classroom means more than just academic success — it also requires equipping them with practical skills for independence. This was the theme of a recent Eye on Education episode on Dubai Eye 103.8, where Helen Farmer spoke with Nicholas Radbourne, Deputy Head at The Royal Grammar School Guildford Dubai.

Mr Radbourne highlighted the importance of teaching financial literacy from an early age, covering essentials such as budgeting, saving, and responsible spending. He shared examples of innovative approaches at RGS Guildford Dubai, including partnerships with banks and “school bank” projects during trips abroad, where pupils manage daily allowances and learn to make thoughtful choices with their money.

By embedding these experiences into school life, Mr Radbourne explained, students not only build confidence in managing finances but also develop resilience and responsibility — skills that will serve them throughout their lives.
